Cunco, Frankel’s First Winner, To Stand In Chile

Cunco, the first winner by undefeated European champion Frankel, will enter stud at Haras Santa Monica in Chile for the approaching Southern Hemisphere breeding season, Racing Post reports.

The 4-year-old raced as a homebred for Don Alberto Corp., and won his May 2016 debut at Newbury Racecourse in England to become his sire’s first winner. Under trainer John Gosden, the Irish-bred colt later went on to take the English Group 3 bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown Park. Cunco was later moved to the U.S., where he was trained by Chad Brown and Bill Mott, but he went unplaced in three starts.

Cunco retired with two wins in 12 starts for earnings of $97,960.

Cunco is the third son of Frankel reported to enter stud, following Naaqoos in Cyprus and Tango Fire in Pakistan.
