Cracksman Makes 2018 Debut A Winning One In Prix Ganay

British-bred star CRACKSMAN (GB) produced another striking performance to win the first European Group 1 of the year, the Prix Ganay, at Longchamp on Sunday.

Already rated the top three-year-old in the 2017 World’s Best Racehorse Rankings, as well as the Cartier Champion Three-year-old Colt, Anthony Oppenheimer’s homebred had finished his season with a commanding victory in the QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot.

He looked just as good as a four-year-old in Paris, stretching an effortless four lengths clear of Godolphin pair WREN’S DAY and CLOTH OF STARS to set himself up for the summer’s main middle-distance events.

CRACKSMAN is a son of Banstead Manor’s exceptional FRANKEL (GB). His dam RHADEGUNDA (GB) was also a homebred from Oppenheimer’s Hascombe And Valiant Studs in Newmarket and won a Listed race in France.

He is a half-brother to Gr3 Solario Stakes winner FANTASTIC MOON (GB), whilst a three-year-old half-brother MILITARY BAND (GB) recently made his debut for Saeed Bin Suroor.

Trainer John Gosden said: “He’s got stronger and done well from three to four. I liked seeing how low and how quickly he was stretching out.

“Mr Oppenheimer is talking about Ascot and the Prince of Wales’s (Stakes) and if it’s genuine good to firm, there’s no reason we don’t go there.”
