Churchill’s Carstanjen: Plans For Trackside Location ‘Start Of Something Bigger’ For Company

Churchill Downs, Inc., CEO Bill Carstanjen began to reveal more information about the company's plans for the former Trackside location during Churchill's quarterly earnings conference call.

According to Louisville Business First, Carstanjen is in the process of finalizing the design for Trackside, which is located on Poplar Level Road in Louisville. The company is investing $60 million to renovate and install historical racing machines at the facility.

Carstanjen told those on the call that he believes the plans for Trackside are “innovative” and “competitive”, and will be the start of something bigger for the company.

Carstanjen said Trackside will initially be outfitted with 600 historical racing machines. If the facility proves successful, he said, the complex will be large enough to bring in more machines.

The facility, which is expected to open by the late summer or early fall of 2018, is expected to create 450 jobs, including 250 temporary construction jobs.
