Champion Good Magic Draws Post 11 For Blue Grass Stakes

Good Magic, the champion 2-year-old male of 2017 who was third in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth in his 2018 debut, drew post 11 in a field of 15, including one-also eligible, in the $1-million Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland, to be run at 1 1/8 miles on the main track on Saturday.

The Blue Grass is an official points race on the road to the Kentucky Derby, with 100 points to the winner, 40 to second, 20 for third and 10 for fourth.

Good Magic, owned by e5 Racing and Stonestreet and trained by Chad Brown, won the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile for his only career victory, but it was good enough to get him the Eclipse Award for champion colt. He came into the Breeders’ Cup off a good second to Firenze Fire in the G1 Champagne Stakes.

Keeneland oddsmaker Mike Battaglia installed Good Magic, a son of Curlin, the 2-1 favorite on the morning line.

Albaugh Family Stable’s Free Drop Billy, winner of Keeneland’s G1 Breeders’ Futurity last fall, is the second choice at 5-1.
