Cecil Borel Officially Retires From Training

Cecil Borel has officially retired from training Thoroughbreds, according to drf.com. The older brother of Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel sent out a total of 723 winners in a career that started in 1979.

His best runner was Relic Reward, winner of the G3 Essex Handicap in 1998.

The elder Borel left the sport in August of 2014, spending time with family and fishing at home in Louisiana. He returned in February of this year and sent out five winners from 28 starters this year.

Renay Borel, Calvin Borel’s wife, took over Cecil’s small string of horses at Churchill Downs.
