CDI Workers Furloughed, Salaries Of Remaining Employees Cut

According to multiple media reports on Thursday, Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) has furloughed an unspecified number of employees as many of its gaming facilities have been closed due to COVID-19.

The measure impacts employees who worked at:

Derby City Gaming (Louisville, Ky.)
Calder Casino (Miami Gardens, Fla.)
Fair Grounds Slots and VLT operations (New Orleans, La.)

Harlow’s Casino (Greenville, Miss.)
Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin (Farmington, Penn.)
Ocean Downs Casino (Berlin, Md.)
Oxford Casino (Oxford, Maine)
Presque Isle Downs & Casino (Erie, Penn.)
Riverwalk Casino (Vicksburg, Miss.)
Arlington International Racecourse (Arlington Heights, Ill.)

According to tweets from the Lexington Herald-Leader’s Janet Patton, the salaried employees still on payroll will see a salary reduction, with the amount dependent upon their pay.

Top brass at CDI can expect the biggest cuts.

According to the Cincinnati Business Courier, furloughed employees will continue to receive health, dental, vision, and life insurance. The number of impacted employees was not specified in an filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission this week, but CEO Bill Carstanjen indicated the company plans to hire them back when it resumes “normal operations.”
