Castellano Sticks With West Coast; Irad Ortiz To Ride Sharp Azteca In Pegasus

On Monday, a deal was announced to get Cigar Mile winner Sharp Azteca into the starting gate for the Pegasus World Cup. Ron Paolucci will lease the spot he purchased to Sharp Azteca’s owner Ivan Rodriguez for the $16 million contest.

Sharp Azteca was ridden to victory in the Cigar Mile by Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano. Castellano is also the regular jockey for Pegasus World Cup probable West Coast.

According to Daily Racing Form Twitter reports, Castellano has elected to ride West Coast in the Pegasus on Jan. 27. Irad Ortiz, Jr. has been given the mount on Sharp Azteca.

Also expected to be in the field for the second running of the Pegasus are: Gun Runner, Gunnevera, War Story, Stellar Wind, Toast of New York, Seeking the Soul, and Collected.
