California Trainer Gary Sherlock, Trainer Of Intangaroo, Uncle Lino, Dies At 73

California-based Gary Sherlock, trainer of horses such as Intangaroo and Uncle Lino, died of cancer Sunday at 73, reported the Daily Racing Form.

Sherlock, whose family was involved in racing, began his training career in Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos and rose to prominence on the circuit but moved into Thoroughbred racing around 1980.

Starting in 1995, Sherlock was away from training for about a decade due to a health problem but he returned in 2005. In 2008, Intangaroo won a trio of Grade 1 races for Sherlock. A few years later, in 2016, he conditioned Uncle Lino, who won the California Chrome Stakes, finished third behind Exaggerator in the Santa Anita Derby and later started in the Preakness.
