Cafe Pharoah’s Last-To-First Move In Hyacinth Tops Japan Road To The Kentucky Derby

Cafe Pharoah impressed in this weekend’s listed Hyacinth Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse to earn 30 points on the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby, topping the current standings.

After breaking last in the 14-horse field, the 3-year-old son of Champion American Pharoah circled the field to hit the wire 1 1/4 lengths in front. Ridden by Mirco Demuro for trainer Noriyuki Hori, Cafe Pharoah ran a mile in 1:37.7.

Undefeated in two career starts, Cafe Pharaoh was bred in Kentucky by Paul Pompa. Out of the multiple graded stakes-winning More Than Ready mare Mary’s Follies, the colt commanded $475,000 as a 2-year-old at the OBS March sale. Cafe Pharaoh is Triple Crown nominated.
