Bolt D’Oro ‘Better And Better’ Through Final Derby Preparations

In his final half-mile work ahead of the Kentucky Derby, Mick Ruis’ Bolt d’Oro continued to impress his trainer. According to bloodhorse.com, the son of Medaglia d’Oro covered a half in :48 1/5 at Santa Anita Park on Saturday morning, ridden by his big day rider Victor Espinoza.

“He’s different from any time he’s been in my barn,” Ruis said. “I don’t know what happened now, after those hard races, but he kept getting better and better.”

Undefeated until the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, in which a wide trip saw him finish third, Bolt d’Oro began his 2018 season with a win via disqualification over McKinzie in the San Felipe. Last out, the talented Justify got loose on the lead in the Santa Anita Derby and Bolt d’Oro could do no more than follow him home in second. He will leave for Churchill on April 30.
