Baffert Ships Thousand Words East For Oaklawn Stakes

Trainer Bob Baffert will send 3-year-old colt Thousand Words to Hot Springs this week for Saturday’s listed Oaklawn Stakes, reports drf.com. The son of Pioneerof the Nile will be vying for one of three slots on the line for the G1 Arkansas Derby, rescheduled for May 2 in the wake of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic; those slots will be awarded to the first three finishers of the Oaklawn.

A winner in his first three career starts, including the G2 Los Alamitos Futurity and G3 Robert B. Lewis, Thousand Words was fourth last out behind stablemate Authentic in the G2 San Felipe Stakes. The $1 million yearling (Keeneland September) is campaigned by Albaugh Family Stables and Spendthrift Farm.

For his first start over nine furlongs, Thousand Words will be ridden in the Oaklawn Stakes by Joe Talamo.

“I think he’ll like a mile and an eighth,” Baffert told drf.com.
