Authentic Retired, Headed For Stud Duties At Spendthrift

Following his victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Authentic has been retired and will take up stud duties at Spendthrift Farm. Ownership group My Racehorse announced the news Monday morning on its Twitter account.

Spendthrift had purchased a majority interest in Authentic in June, ahead of his Kentucky Derby victory. Authentic is a son of top Spendthrift success story Into Mischief.

Additional ownership partners in Authentic included Madaket Stables and Starlight Racing.

Bob Baffert trained the son of Mr. Greeley mare Flawless to a record of six wins from eight races and earnings of over $6.1 million. In addition to his Derby and Classic victories, Authentic is the winner of the G1 Haskell and G2 San Felipe and was narrowly defeated in the G1 Preakness.

A stud fee has not been announced at this time.
