Ask Angel Anything: Laurel Jockey, Eclipse Finalist Angel Cruz To Appear Live On Instagram Friday

The Maryland Jockey Club will host an Instagram Live question and answer session with jockey Angel Cruz Friday, April 17, starting at 3 p.m.

Questions may be submitted via Instagram, Instagram stories or Twitter using #AskAngelAnything, both leading up to and on the day of the session.

Fans can access the live stream by searching for the Maryland Jockey Club’s Instagram page (@marylandjockeyclub) or by visiting https://www.instagram.com/marylandjockeyclub/

A ring will highlight the MJC profile pic/logo to alert followers they can view the live stream. Fans can watch the live stream on their computer or via the Instagram app on their mobile device.

Cruz, who turned 25 March 29, is a Grade 1-winning jockey with 481 career victories since 2014. He ranked eighth at Laurel Park’s 2020 winter meet with 14 wins, including Princess Cadey in the March 14 Beyond the Wire Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

A native of Puerto Rico, Cruz grew up with Eclipse Award-winning brothers Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jose Ortiz, coming to the U.S. at the age of 11. Cruz was an Eclipse Award finalist for North America’s champion apprentice in 2014, which went to Drayden Van Dyke. Cruz’s uncle, Joel Hiraldo, and grandfather, Jose Hiraldo, were both jockeys.
