Army Mule Taken Out Of Met Mile Consideration

Impressive winner of the Grade 1 Carter Handicap in April, St. Elias Stable’s Army Mule has unfortunately been ruled out of consideration for the Metropolitan Mile Handicap on the Belmont Stakes undercard. According to drf.com, the 4-year-old son of Friesan Fire is going to get time off in Ocala and point to a late summer campaign.

“He just hasn’t regained the form he had going into the Carter,” said trainer Todd Pletcher. “We just haven’t been able to get him back where we want him. We hate to miss the Met, but our primary thought is to do what’s best for the horse.”

The Pennsylvania-bred Army Mule has won all three of his career starts by a combined 22 1/4 lengths, earning $311,400.
