‘All The X-Rays Were Negative’: Servis Prepared To Move Forward With Maximum Security

Gary and Mary West’s Maximum Security emerged from his controversial run in the Kentucky Derby with cuts on his hind legs, and trainer Jason Servis wasn’t happy with the colt’s movement when jogging last Thursday at Monmouth Park, according to the Asbury Park Press. He decided to have the son of New Year’s Day fully examined before moving forward.

“All the X-rays were negative,” Servis said on Monday afternoon. “He got beat up a little bit in the Kentucky Derby but we’re fortunate it was nothing too serious. He just needs some time. I will let him tell me (when he’s ready to race again).”

The next start for the Florida Derby winner could come in the G1 Haskell at Monmouth on July 20, though a prep race may also be under consideration depending on Maximum Security’s readiness to run.
