‘A Very Good Chance’ Bobby Abu Dhabi Did Not Suffer Heart Attack, Says CHRB Chairman

When Hall of Fame jockey Victor Espinoza was seriously injured during a workout aboard Bobby Abu Dhabi last month at Del Mar, it was widely assumed that the Peter Miller-trained 4-year-old had suffered a heart attack, both because of the suddenness of his fall and the fact that he remained motionless afterward.

On Thursday, California Horse Racing Board Chairman Chuck Winner indicated that a heart attack may not have been the cause of Bobby Abu Dhabi’s death, according to bloodhorse.com.

“For the record, to clarify, the enhanced necropsy on Bobby Abu Dhabi … has not been completed,” said Winner. “It does appear that there’s a very good chance it was not a heart attack.”

Winner’s statement was made in response to Joanne Nor’s warnings about the herbicide glyphosate during the public comment period of the CHRB meeting.
