54-Year-Old Hebert Rides 4,000th Winner Tuesday

Jockey Tracy Hebert celebrated his 4000th career victory on Tuesday at Zia Park, guiding Rational Decision to a 4 1/4-length win in the fourth race. According to drf.com, the 54-year-old rider is originally from Erath, La., the same hometown as Randy Romero, Shane Sellers, and Curt Bourque.

A regular face on the circuits in New Mexico and Louisiana, Hebert has collected titles at Arapahoe Park, Delta Downs, Evangeline, Jefferson Downs, Thistledown, and Turfway Park. He tied with jockey Jorge Carreno for last year’s leading rider title at Zia Park.

Hebert’s top mount was Silent Pleasure, with whom he won the 2007 Texas Mile (G3) at Lone Star Park and finished second in the 2007 Cornhusker Handicap (G2) at Prairie Meadows. With 27,670 starts to his name, Hebert and his mounts have earned over $54 million in a career that spans back to 1979.
