$42,230 Pick 6 Carryover Into Friday Program At Saratoga; Smithwick Postponed Until Monday

Friday’s Pick 6 will be augmented by a $42,230 carryover as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Thursday at Saratoga Race Course.

Favorites took the first two legs of Thursday’s sequence with Brimstone (No. 5, $5) and Alberobello (No. 4, $4.80) proving dominant in Races 5 and 6, respectively. Off at 9-2, first-time gelding Fully Vested (No. 2, $11) followed with a breakthrough maiden win in Race 7 and G Zap (No. 5, $14) got the win in Race 8.

In the day’s feature race, 8-year-old gelding Weekend Hideaway (No. 8, $23.40) nabbed his first win in 14 months with a front-running score in the John Morrissey for New York-breds in Race 9 and, in the night cap, first-time starter Guacamole (No. 1, $6.30) was elevated to first as the post-time favorite in Race 10.

Five of six winners returned $454.00.

Friday’s Pick 6 sequence will get underway in Race 5 with a post time of 3:14 p.m. ET, and will be anchored by the $100,000 Curlin for 3-year-old Travers hopefuls, featuring Hofburg in his first race since running third in the Belmont Stakes, in Race 9.

Wagering on the Pick 6 is available through NYRA Bets, on-track, and Belmont Café, as well as simulcast facilities across the country.

Rain postponed the Grade 1, $175,000 A.P. Smithwick Memorial – the first Grade 1 steeplechase of the Saratoga meet – from Thursday to Monday. All races for Thursday were moved off the turf.

The new draw for the race’s 22nd running, which will be Race 1 on Monday, will feature the same seven horses originally entered with no jockey changes. Modem, the original 9-5 favorite trained by Elizabeth Voss, will now leave from post 5 carrying the 156-pound highweight in tandem with jockey Jack Doyle.

All the Way Jose, trained by Jonathan Sheppard at 5-2, will now exit post 3 with Ross Geraghty. He will carry 154 pounds.

Iranistan, who drew post 1 originally, again will leave from that spot at 143 pounds. Darren Nagle rides for Sheppard’s other entry.

Rounding out the field is Personal Start, trained by Richard Valentine, from post 2; Overwhelming, for trainer Jack Fisher, from post 6; Show Court, trained by Archibald Kinglsey, Jr., from post 7; and Oskar Denarius, at 15-1 and carrying the low weight of 136 pounds, from post 4.
