27 And Counting: ‘Superstar’ Winx Does It Again

Australian supermare Winx has now won 27 races in a row, taking out Saturday’s Group 1 George Main Stakes at Randwick under regular rider Hugh Bowman. It is the Street Cry mare’s 20th G1 victory and 29th stakes win; the latter number overtakes the Australian record previously held by Sunline.

“If you expect to win races at the 300 metre mark every time you’ll probably come off second best,” trainer Chris Waller told abc.net.au. “But Hughey, he knew he had that extra 10 per cent we see every start, it gets her out of a lot of trouble and that’s why this winning sequence continues. She’s got some gears. It keeps going to a new level every time. She’s a superstar.”

Winx is expected to aim for an unprecedented fourth win in the Cox Plate, but Waller has not officially decided on her next prep race.
