$210,000 Into Mischief Filly Tops Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings Sale

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearlings sale ended early Tuesday evening, once again posting a $15,000 median equal to last year’s figure and good for second-highest median at this sale all time.

Seven of the top 10 prices were achieved by Midlantic-breds, including a $210,000 filly and a $200,000 colt. Maryland-based sires Great Notion and Golden Lad were each represented by a six-figure yearling.

The session topper – and sale topper – was a filly by Into Mischief (Hip 399) out of Spin the Bottle, purchased for $210,000 by Three Diamonds Farm from the consignment of CandyLand, agent.

The bay filly is by this year’s leading living sire of 2-year-olds by earnings and stakes winners, and is the first foal out of the unraced Hard Spun mare Spin the Bottle. That mare is a half-sister to four winners, including graded stakes placed Nathan’s H Q. Hip 399 hails from the immediate family of Grade 1 winner Off the Tracks and Grade 2 winner and successful sire Concord Point. She was bred in Maryland by Classic Thoroughbred.

The session’s top colt came later in the session, by Shackleford (Hip 427) sold for $145,000 to Pleasant Valley Farm from the consignment of Marshall W. Silverman, agent for Bayne & Christina Welker.

The bay colt, by sire the of 2018 Grade 1 winner Promised Fulfilled, is out of 100% winner producer Teruko, by Coronado’s Quest. That mare has produced seven winners from as many to race, including multiple stakes winner Safe Trip. Teruko is a half-sister to graded stakes winner and stakes winner producer Willa On the Move (1999). The immediate family includes Grade 1 winning millionaire Tizway and Grade 1 winners Will’s Way and Willa On the Move (1985).

In total, 338 yearlings sold for $7,318,700 over the two days, for an average of $21,653. The median equaled last year’s mark of $15,000, the second highest such figure in the sale’s history. The RNA rate improved to 21.8%.
